Mayor's Office

Welcome to the City of East Chicago!

As a lifelong resident, it is my distinct honor to serve as your Mayor. My heart and my history are deeply rooted in this community, and it is my administration's unwavering commitment to build a city that is a source of pride and a place of opportunity for every resident.

I invite you to explore our city's website and discover the tremendous progress we are making together. We are a community on the rise, and the evidence is all around us. I am incredibly proud to report that our focused efforts on public safety have resulted in a significant 34% reduction in overall crime since 2021, including a 50% decrease in violent crime year-over-year. This is a testament to the dedication of our police force and the collaborative spirit of our residents.

This dedication to improvement extends to every corner of our city. We are investing millions of dollars to enhance our parks and city infrastructure, with major projects like the complete reconstruction of several streets, which includes new sewers, water lines, sidewalks, and streets. Our commitment to providing quality housing is evident in the new homes being built in Calumet, and the recent grand opening of the beautiful Lakeshore Manor, a 206-unit affordable senior housing development.

East Chicago is also a city that is open for business. We are attracting new investment and fostering a business-friendly environment, exemplified by the new state-of-the-art industrial developments at 1200 W. 145th Street and Harvest Food Group off or Railroad Ave. Furthermore, we are laying the groundwork for future growth and enhanced connectivity for our residents.

These are just a few of the exciting developments taking shape in our city. I encourage you to delve deeper into our website to learn more about these projects and the many other initiatives underway. You can also stay up-to-date by reading our "EC Life" newsletter, which provides regular updates on the progress we are making. Click here to view our archive.

East Chicago is more than just a place on a map; it is our home. It is a community of resilient, hardworking people who deserve a city that reflects their spirit. My administration is dedicated to continuing this positive momentum and building a brighter future for all.

Welcome to East Chicago, a city of progress and opportunity.

Sincerely,

Anthony Copeland
