The Sunnyside Exterior Renovation Façade Program, which is being sponsored through the City of East Chicago Department of Redevelopment, is utilizing federal HUD funds to finance seven year forgivable loans to individual homeowners in making exterior improvements to their dwellings.

The exterior improvements may include siding, windows, doors, insulation, roofing, soffit, fascia, gutters, stoops, railings, cellar doors, and other site specific items. The program is designed to incorporate quality and uniformity of materials to provide for sustainable and enhanced living environments to homeowners and to promote overall neighborhood cohesion.

The program will be initiated through various Phases which will first address exterior improvements towards residential duplex buildings with likely separate owners on each side. In an effort to oversee compliance with HUD’s funding assistance, the program design and implementation, Redevelopment will assist each homeowner of a duplex building with soliciting a single contractor who is licensed by the City of East Chicago and has the ability to perform successfully under the terms and conditions of the proposed contracts.

Additional information about this program is available through contacting the Department of Redevelopment at (219) 391-8513.
