Code Enforcement

Creating Safer & More Attractive Neighborhoods

In an effort to help beautify and improve our neighborhoods, Mayor George Pabey has created a Code Enforcement Strike Force composed of inspectors from the Building, Fire, Police and Health Departments.

Code violations will be immediately addressed

Vehicles

Vehicles parked in non-designated parking areas will be towed

Examples:  residential/commercial vacant lots, parkways, sidewalks, front yards, non-permitted driveways, junk cars in backyards, vehicles parked on wrong side of the street, resident's vehicles with out-of-state license plates.

Property Maintenance

Distressed rental properties, single-family homes, garages, commercial and industrial businesses

Examples:  untidy lawns, unsightly weeds, overgrown brush, strewed trash, unsafe buildings

Our Mission:

To create safer, healthier and more attractive neighborhoods in East Chicago while enforcing municipal codes to reduce the number of unsafe properties within our community.  The success of this program will lower crime, raise property values, provide the city with a better image and create community pride.
