
Mayor George Pabey’s JET (Jobs, Education and Training) Program has helped hundreds of residents find and develop careers in the 21st Century by providing them adequate training and referrals.
By partnering with business, industry and educational institutions, the City of East Chicago is maximizing its resources to provide career opportunities for its residents. Numerous training initiatives, programs and referrals have been established because of these efforts.

JET Program Goals
To work on an in school program that will prepare students for post high school education or the job market.
To have an out of school program that will work with:
1. High school graduates
2. GED recipients
3. High school dropouts
In School Program
Worked with six businesses (Mittal, BP, Praxair, Safety Kleen, NIPSCO, and Union Tank) to create a 24- college credit hour manufacturing and technology certificate for high school students to better prepare them for work or higher education initiatives. Worked with Center for Workforce Innovations to implement a work ethics program that is endorsed by the companies involved and East Chicago Central High School. Students entering the program their Junior year, can/will graduate with 24 college credits and a certificate in the Work Ethics Program. This certificate and the credits will merit them interviews with the companies affiliated with some of the companies.

During Junior and Senior years of high school
Graduate HS with 24 college credits
Successful completion of this program will merit interviews with some of the local employers upon graduation from High School
College credits are transferable to other colleges

Entrepreneurial Program
Facilitated meetings between Ivy Tech, NW Indiana Small Business Development Center, School City of East Chicago, Workforce Development and the City of East Chicago HR Department to provide summer entrepreneurial program for 18 students.
