Permitting

Pursuant to East Chicago Municipal Code, Title 15, Chapter 15.04, a permit shall be obtained before beginning construction, alteration or repair of any building or structure, using forms furnished by the Building Department and all fees required shall be paid to the City. Permits are required for the following:

   New buildings and structures

   Additions (pools, etc.)

   Repairs/replacement (roof, fence, etc.)

   Alterations/renovations

   Garages

   Electrical systems

   Plumbing systems

   HVAC systems

The above apply to all residential, commercial, industrial and public buildings.

Recipients of building permits must schedule required and mandatory inspections with the City of East Chicago Building Department twenty four (24) hours in advance.  Failure to comply may result in a revoked permit, a stop work order, and may be assessed a fine of $100-$500.

A certificate of occupancy and compliance will be issued upon total completion of the project and fulfillment of associated fees, which shall be by the Building Department.Ø Permit Requirements
