The City of East Chicago and the Department of Redevelopment is proud to be bringing to the City of East Chicago new all brick high quality homes to the Washington Square area located on the corner of Parrish and Columbus Drive. The homes designs will be Tri-levels and Two-story all brick, 3 bedrooms, two plus baths, with an attached 2 car garage built by Phillippe Builders.
The Department of Redevelopment is offering home ownership incentives by providing down payment assistance ranging between $25,000 to $30,000. This is a great opportunity for everyone including East Chicago City employees to be a new and/or first time home owner in a beautiful semi-gated sub-division in the City of East Chicago.
As part of the program participants are require to attend an 8 hour homeowners work shop that will be held on Saturday, December 8th from 9am to 6pm. The Department of Redevelopment is also offering to home owners who reside in their homes to become a part of the Redevelopment Rehab Program for homes that need home repairs that cause health and safety conditions and code violations. The assistance covered by this program includes repairs to your electrical systems, HVAC, rood repairs, plumbing and safety systems. There are eligible grant funds per homeowner with low interest loans also being available.
There will be a huge array of options available and showcased at this event and will have individuals in place to answer specific questions.

The East Chicago Department of Redevelopment will be holding an Executive Commissioners Session on Thursday, November 15, 2012 at 4:00 PM in the Conference Room of the Redevelopment Offices at 400 East Chicago Avenue, East Chicago, IN;
THIS CLOSED Executive Session shall be held to discuss a personnel matter(s), litigations and miscellaneous items pursuant to Indiana Code Title 5, Article 14, Chapter 1.5, Sections 6.1(b)(9).

Team Up Clean Up Design Contest Winners
November 8, 2012...In an effort to beautify East Chicago, Mayor Anthony Copeland created the “Team Up Clean Up” program. The first part of the program was to host a community design competition. The City of East Chicago received over 55 entries. Mayor Anthony Copeland would like to congratulate all of our participants for taking pride in our city and helping create clean up awareness in our community. This is only the beginning of our efforts.
There will be an awards ceremony at the Mayor’s Office located at 4527 Indianapolis Blvd. on November 20, 2012 at 10 am.

Prizes were sponsored by the Foundations of East Chicago and Mayor Anthony Copeland. Judging our competition was, Sylvia Morrisroe - Foundation Board Member, Cheryl Smith - Public Relations, East Chicago Public Library & Cristina Guillen - Multimedia Division.
Our projects for the spring will include a citywide clean up week and we are in the process of creating an adopt a block program. We are asking the business community, civic organization, churches, and residents to participate in this effort to beautify East Chicago.
