Rental Properties Division Registration of Rental Properties Ordinance No. 0-01-0017, an ordinance requiring registration of all rental housing in the City of East Chicago, enacted by the Common Council on May 31, 2001, is presently in effect. Registrations are received Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 3:30p.m. The ordinance requires owners of rental properties to register annually at the East Chicago Building Department Office, located at 4525 Indianapolis Blvd., Suite 205, East Chicago, Indiana, and pay an annual registration fee of $10.00 per street address of each rental property. Property owners are required to provide proof of ownership (mortgage, deed, property tax statement, etc.) and identification to process the registration of their rental property. Failure to register shall constitute a violation and will subject the owner to a fine in any sum no less than $250.00, nor to exceed $2,500.00 per street address of each property in violation.
